Journal Entry #10

This advertisement for Utopian Stone's custom jewelry uses various colors to catch the readers attention. First, the background is outlined in a black monochromatic scheme to bring out what they're attempting to bring the viewers eye to, the jewelry. Also, the background is in black and white, following the monochromatic scheme but also allowing them to create various images from the gradients that represent the company, such as where they get their materials as well as the social class who wears it. The foreground colors are of gold, green and purple. These colors serve to bring beauty to the otherwise dreary composition and dig it out of a sort of depressing and dull tonal graveyard. The three main colors sticking out could be described as part of the split-complimentary color scheme. The color used in this advertisement is what makes this an excellent composition with the dark background easily highlighting what they want to draw your attention to, the fixing it with beautiful images and colors. Then as those colors being to lose their appeal your eye wanders to the rest of the composition to see the other messages they have to express, bringing out a truly fantastic piece of advertising.
