Journal Entry #10

This advertisement for Utopian Stone's custom jewelry uses various colors to catch the readers attention. First, the background is outlined in a black monochromatic scheme to bring out what they're attempting to bring the viewers eye to, the jewelry. Also, the background is in black and white, following the monochromatic scheme but also allowing them to create various images from the gradients that represent the company, such as where they get their materials as well as the social class who wears it. The foreground colors are of gold, green and purple. These colors serve to bring beauty to the otherwise dreary composition and dig it out of a sort of depressing and dull tonal graveyard. The three main colors sticking out could be described as part of the split-complimentary color scheme. The color used in this advertisement is what makes this an excellent composition with the dark background easily highlighting what they want to draw your attention to, the fixing it with beautiful images and colors. Then as those colors being to lose their appeal your eye wanders to the rest of the composition to see the other messages they have to express, bringing out a truly fantastic piece of advertising.

Journal Entry #9

The company Cies uses two rather simple colors, red and white. The color dominate color red blends seamlessly with the white giving the logo strong contrast bringing it out and easily catches the viewers eye. They then follow the red lines left to the logo name, giving it a name and an identity. The design uses monochromatic colors, being that it has a dark red that fades down in a gradient to white, bringing the two white and red contrasting colors into harmony.
The Firefox logo uses the beautiful complimentary colors of red and blue that slowly changes to lighter colors with the use of gradients. The colors can represent the harmonious merging of Firefox and the rest of the world, the red being Firefox and blue being the world complimenting each other with their colors. The red could also be used to symbolize the web browser revolution with the intelligent blue world. The colors in this design both excite the viewer while relaxing them at the same time.

This next company uses a triadic color scheme. The red, blue and gold twist into each other removing the different boundaries these three different colors represent. The three colors are subtractive in nature, however in the center you are confused with a white white, where one would expect to find a black. However, around the edges of the colors the gradient darkens, and at the far edge of the logo is the company with dark lettering bringing the piece together and creating a harmonious feel.
